Cosmelan Depigmentation

An established depigmentation method for uneven tone.

Prices are in AED and exclude 5% VAT. Every treatment begins with a physician consultation. A consultation is not a commitment to treatment.

What it is

A clinic-applied mask and a structured home regimen that regulate pigment production. Suited to melasma, sun-induced marks and post-inflammatory discolouration.

What it addresses

Stubborn pigmentation: melasma, sun spots and age spots, dark marks left after acne (post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation) and uneven skin tone. It is often chosen when skincare or lighter peels alone have not been enough.

What you should see

Dark patches can lighten visibly, and skin tone becomes more even, clearer and brighter over the following weeks. The home maintenance cream helps keep pigment production in check, but pigmentation, melasma especially, can return, so daily sun protection remains essential. Individual results vary.

What it does not do

  • Is not a permanent cure for melasma: it can return with sun exposure or hormonal changes
  • Does not lift or tighten the skin
  • Does not treat redness or rosacea
  • Does not remove tattoos or birthmarks
  • Cannot be combined straight away with laser treatments or strong peels
  • Does not work without daily sun protection and the home maintenance routine

Who it is not for

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding
  • Allergy or sensitivity to any Cosmelan ingredient
  • Active facial infection, eczema or broken skin
  • Skin still healing from a recent laser, microneedling or medium-depth peel
  • Isotretinoin (oral acne medication) in the past six months
  • Active cold sores
  • Sunburn
  • Being unable to follow the daily home routine and sun protection

Areas

  • Forehead (diffuse or patchy pigment)
  • Cheeks and cheekbones (melasma, sun spots, marks after acne)
  • Upper lip (hormonal pigmentation, the 'moustache' shadow)
  • Chin and around the mouth (uneven tone)
  • Nose and the bridge of the nose (freckles)
  • Temples and the sides of the face (sun-related pigment)
  • Jawline (lingering marks and blotchiness)

Downtime, in full

Expect redness, tightness and peeling for about one to two weeks. Redness is usually strongest in the first two days, and peeling typically begins around day three. Mild dryness or pinkness can linger a little longer.

Comfort and anaesthesia

Usually mild: tingling, itching or a warm, stinging feeling while the mask is on, and a sunburn-like sensation for a day or two after it is removed. No anaesthetic is needed.

Timeline

Peeling takes place over the first week or two, and skin tone usually looks clearer within two to four weeks. Improvement continues over the following months with the home maintenance cream: the method runs for around six months, with follow-up visits. It involves one in-clinic mask plus the home routine, and stubborn melasma may need a repeat treatment later.

After the treatment

  • Use Cosmelan 2 and your home products exactly as instructed
  • Apply SPF 50+ every morning and reapply regularly when outdoors
  • Do not pick or peel the flakes
  • Avoid sun, heat, saunas and harsh actives while the skin is peeling
  • Use the recommended moisturiser to support the skin barrier
  • Attend your follow-up visits, so your home routine can be adjusted
  • Wear a hat and seek shade in the months that follow

How people describe it

  • A melasma 'mask' that make-up cannot fully cover
  • A dark shadow on the upper lip
  • Brown marks left after breakouts
  • Sun spots from years in the Gulf
  • Uneven skin tone that photographs poorly
  • Pigment that flared after a holiday or hormonal changes
  • Wanting a clearer, more even complexion without starting with laser

Suitability is decided in the room, with a physician.

Device suitability is confirmed at consultation — never before. Results vary between individuals and no particular outcome is promised.
