Why it happens

Post-Acne Marks, explained plainly.

When a blemish heals, the inflammation it caused can leave extra melanin behind in the skin, or a lingering pink-red mark where small vessels are still settling. The spot is gone, yet its shadow remains, sometimes for many months. Deeper skin tones are more prone to brown marks, and picking or squeezing makes them more likely. Sun exposure darkens them further and slows their fading, which matters in a climate with year-round strong light.
