What it is

An in-clinic mask followed by a disciplined home protocol. Dermamelan is the more intensive of the two mesoestetic methods and is reserved for stubborn, long-standing pigmentation.

What it addresses

Dermamelan is a professional depigmentation method for stubborn, long-standing pigmentation: melasma, sun spots and age spots, post-inflammatory marks such as those left by acne, and uneven skin tone. It is often chosen when pigmentation has not responded to standard peels or skincare.

What you should see

Dark spots typically become lighter and less defined, and the complexion looks more even, brighter and clearer over the following weeks. The home phase helps regulate melanin production, which, together with strict sun protection, can help reduce the chance of pigmentation returning. Results vary.

What it does not do

  • It does not cure melasma: sun protection and maintenance remain important long term
  • It does not tighten loose skin or reduce fat
  • It does not remove moles or treat broken capillaries and other vascular marks
  • Acids, retinoids and heat-based treatments cannot be resumed straight away
  • It does not work without the home phase: results depend on following it every day

Who it is not for

  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding
  • Active skin infection including cold sores, open wounds, or eczema or dermatitis in the area
  • Allergy to any ingredient in the product
  • Isotretinoin, currently or within the past six months
  • A recent peel, laser or microneedling treatment that has not fully healed
  • Recent sunburn or tanning in the area
  • A tendency to keloid scarring
  • A history of frequent cold sores, unless preventive treatment is arranged
  • Being unable to avoid the sun or to follow the four-month home programme

Areas

  • Forehead and temples
  • Cheeks and cheekbones
  • Upper lip and around the mouth
  • Chin and jawline
  • Nose
  • Sides of the face, in front of the ears
  • Neck and décolletage, when included in your plan

Downtime, in full

Redness, tightness and peeling are expected, usually most noticeable around days three to five and settling over one to two weeks. The skin can stay sensitive for a few weeks, so many people plan for about a week of limited social activity.

Comfort and anaesthesia

Warmth, tingling or mild stinging may be felt while the mask is on and in the first few days afterwards, and the home phase can cause some dryness and sensitivity. No injections or anaesthetic are involved.

Timeline

Redness and peeling are usual in the first week. Dark spots typically start to look lighter within a few weeks, and improvement continues through the four-month home phase. Melasma can return, so sun protection and maintenance continue afterwards, and a repeat course may be advised.

After the treatment

  • Remove the mask at home at the exact time you are given
  • Use your Dermamelan home products exactly as prescribed
  • Apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ every day and reapply every two hours outdoors
  • Let the skin peel naturally: do not pick or rub it
  • Avoid heat, saunas, steam rooms, swimming and intense exercise while the skin is peeling
  • Pause other active skincare, such as acids and retinoids, unless advised otherwise
  • Avoid direct sun and wear a hat or seek shade throughout the programme
  • Attend your review visits so that progress can be monitored

How people describe it

  • Stubborn melasma that comes back every summer
  • Dark patches on the cheeks and upper lip
  • Brown marks left by acne that won't fade
  • An uneven, blotchy complexion under make-up
  • Sun spots and age spots across the cheeks
  • Pigmentation that worsened after pregnancy or hormonal changes
  • Skin that looks dull and two-toned in Dubai light

Suitability is decided in the room, with a physician.

Device suitability is confirmed at consultation — never before. Results vary between individuals and no particular outcome is promised.
